CO2 bioremediation

The significant release of CO2 in industrial fumes is a current environmental issue.

The COLDEP process allows manufacturers to recover this CO2 by using it in various fields of application, and made it possible to reach unprecedented scales in these applications.

This application was used in particular in the Vasco2 project: a European research project aimed at recovering part of the industrial fumes and injecting them into a microalgae culture medium.

Harvest - Concentration - Bioremediation

CO bioremediation2 by microalgae

CO2 contained in the fumes serves as nutrition for the growth of microalgae. These microalgae are then used in different sectors, taking into account the quality of the fumes: production of energy or bioplastics, production of cosmetics, human or animal food.

Maximum daily algal productivity obtained in open pond

Maximum pre-concentration of microalgae crops to reduce drying costs

Annual yield of bioremediated CO₂ demonstrated in the Vasco2 project

The Vasco3 project will aim to surpass the production and sequestration records set during Vasco2. The COLDEP process makes it possible to consider solutions to major ecological problems.

Testimonials

I had the pleasure of piloting the Vasco2 program which aimed to bioremediate industrial fumes in the Fos ZIP (industrial port zone) with microalgae. The Coldep column made it possible to dissolve the CO2 extremely efficient while guaranteeing agitation over the entire basin. With this equipment, we were able to cultivate our microalgae more than 50 cm deep during the two years of demonstration! The best proof of performance I can provide? For the Vasco3 program, currently being funded, the cultivation equipment (including two 3,000 m² basins) will include Coldep columns!
